One Ph.D. Position in Science and Technology of Bio and Nanomaterials


The Centre for Cultural Heritage Technology finances one scholarship linked to a Ph.D. position available at the PhD Program in Science and Technology of Bio and Nanomaterials, organized by Università Ca’ Foscari – Venezia. The position offered is focused on the following topic: Roman glass: development of protective strategies for material preservation. The recipient of the scholarship will develop the project under the supervision of the Center Coordinator, Arianna Traviglia, in Venice, together with a supervisor at the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems of the Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia. This grant is intented to undertake a PhD project on the study of protective treatments for maintenance and preservation of archaeological glass. The PhD student will support ongoing research at the Center for Cultural Heritage Technology, and she/he will focus on the design and development of nanostructured protective coatings for glass artifacts. Based on in depth understanding of the degradation mechanisms involved, this tailored protective system will be obtained by conventional and non-conventional coating deposition techniques.
