One Ph.D. Position in Environmental Sciences


The Center for Cultural Heritage Technology finances one scholarship linked to a Ph.D. position available at the PhD Program in Computer Science, organized by Università Ca’ Foscari – Venezia. The aim of the collaboration is to develop Computer Vision/Machine learning methods for Cultural Heritage preservation and analysis. The position offered is focused on the following topic: Landscape studies, environment and Artificial Intelligence. The Ph.D. candidate will be involved in the ongoing research program of the Center for Cultural Heritage Technology focused on the automatic identification of buried cultural heritage sites. The Ph.D. candidate will specifically develop Computer Vision and Machine Learning methods for the detection of the presence of buried archaeological sites based on different chemical and physical properties of the terrain and of the vegetation that cover those sites.
This research will be undertaken within the CCHT facilities and in strict collaboration with CCHT experts in Cultural Heritage, Machine Learning and Conservation Sciences. The recipient of the scholarship will develop the project under the supervision of the Center Coordinator, Arianna Traviglia, in Venice, together with a supervisor at the Department of Environmental Sciences, Informatics and Statistics of the Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia.
