One Ph.D. Position in Chemistry on Mosaics
CCHT-IIT funds one scholarship for a Ph.D. position available in the Joint PhD Program in Chemistry of the Università Ca’ Foscari – Venezia and Università degli Studi di Trieste. The joint research aims at developing protective materials for Cultural Heritage preservation. The position holder will focus on Mosaic: study of the constituent components, from the glass tiles to the bedding mortar and development of tailored protective systems (C/12).The recipient of the scholarship will develop the project under the supervision of the Center Coordinator, Arianna Traviglia, in Venice, together with a supervisor at the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems of the Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia.
In details, the research program will focus on the characterisation and protection of architectural decorative elements, such as mosaics exposed to hazardous conditions (like highly saline environment, e.g. near sea or lagoon). In particular, the PhD student will study the variety of materials that compose the mosaics, notably the glass/stone tesserae and the mortar. The diffusive processes occurring within the stratigraphy will be studied to better understand the degradation processes. The study will be aimed at the development of nanostructured protective layers capable to locally consolidate the bedding material.
Deadline: 7th June 2021, at 1:00 pm (Italian time)
